Few participants have been as broadly engaged in our programs, or for as long, as Mr. Lindsey. With an Aim Games record spanning his nine years of throwing experience, there’s only a few tournaments he hasn’t played. An active member of the UK throwing community, Stu has competed in many club, national and international competitions over the years as well, earning placements and victories along the way. Remarking on his early days he says “I visited a throwing club and after I got home, I found some targets, bought some knives and just set it up in my garden. I rushed so much I didn't realize I built my target onto the door to my shed. So I kept the target and made a new entrance to my shed. I was already hooked. Four months later at that same club I did my first competition”.
When reflecting on his throwing history, Stu brings up a particular fondness for Mountain Man challenges. However, when asked about his favorites and what he feels he is best known for, he tells us, “I like throwing Mountain Man, but I do prefer rotational knife throwing to be honest. I do think I’m most well known for playing the Aim Games. I’ve competed in nearly all of them, and have placed in the top ten in most of those that I played. I think the Aim Games are responsible for me winning Mountain Man in the UK and Eurothrower competitions. I think it was K7 where we had to hit 20 playing cards in a grid. We went through so many cards. That’s probably why I like Mountain Man games so much”.
Outside of throwing, Mr. Lindsey has a strong talent for art and craftwork. “I designed the current Aim Games logo and some of my artwork has won in past art contests. I’m a bit of an artist and I like to make things. I’ve got quite a nice knife case that I made from a violin case. I think it’s in one of Marcus Pehart’s videos”. Having packed so much involvement in the throwing community, as an athlete and an artist, Stu has certainly gained many friends and mentors, telling us, “when I first started, I watched all of Pat Minter’s videos on Youtube. Everything he did was just ridiculously accurate. I feel I first joined the Aim Games just to be on the same scoresheet as him. But, I have had many influences over the years. Richard Sunderland really helped me with my axe throwing in the beginning. There’s loads of influential throwers, like Paul Maccarone, he’s a top competitor”.
Being a top competitor in the Aim Games himself with over 20 under his belt, Stu holds an enormous wealth of experience playing our tournaments and networking within the community, saying “They’re extremely compelling and always a challenge, I don’t know how Rick comes up with them. You always have people all over the world offering help and friendship. When I went to Eurothrowers, I already knew everyone from playing the Aim Games. It’s nice to chat with people on a global level”.
Nickname Backstory:
“Steg is my nickname from school”.
Advice To New Throwers:
“Go to the nearest throwing club or facility. Make friends, ask if you can try out other thrower’s knives. Learn about what knives are out there, ask questions and take that knowledge home with you”.
Notable Achievements:
Outside the Aim Games, Stu took the gold medal in the Mountain Man category at the 2018 UK nationals, as well as the gold medal in the Mountain Man category and the silver medal in the Country Vs. Country team category at the 2019 Eurothrowers World Championship.
