Kali Tattersall

Hailing From: Lancashire, U.K.

Throwing Since: 2020

As precision throwing sports can be easily played at home, the pandemic saw a significant increase in community participation and growth, ushering in many new athletes with serious talent and commitment. Athletes like Kali Tattersall. “I throw axes, knives and double bit, mostly under KATTA and UKAT regulations. I started in lockdown with some small rubbish knives and a piece of wood. When things started to open up, I found my closest range and went along and discovered what proper throwing knives were. I had a go with axes, as well. I discovered the Aim Games early on in my throwing, and the competition element is what got me completely addicted. I started throwing for hours every day. Even in winter I was clearing snow and taking hot water out to defrost the targets! Due to this obsessive throwing I progressed pretty quickly, and attended my first in person competition in 2021, which was the UK championship. I decided to enter the main competition rather than the beginners, due to where I had been placing in Aim Games, and managed to come away with a few medals.”

While Kali knows well the value of competitive energy and building skill, it’s clear she places the most significance on community and the love of the throw, “I found the people in the community so friendly and welcoming, as someone who struggles with social anxiety I was nervous going to an event on my own hardly knowing anyone there, but I had such a great time and always do at every competition I've been to. Pretty quickly I was starting to come away with gold medals and then I started winning the UK female champion titles. Since that first competition, I've attended as many as I've been able to as it's always such a great atmosphere. The people I've met have been so great helping me improve my throwing. I've had a lot of people influence my throwing career. There have been so many people helping me out at clubs and competitions with my throwing and with my general confidence. It's hard to shorten such a long list. Richard Loxton, Mark Bond, and Alan K. Parish all have given me some amazing tips over the years that have really helped. There’s John Taylor for running such a great organisation in the UK and Beatrice Francovschi for being such a great friend and helping me with my confidence and always giving me emotional support. Rick and all the Aim Games team have had such a huge influence too as without the fresh challenges and year round competitions I definitely wouldn't be where I am today!”

Nickname Backstory:

“There's not a nickname that I'm widely known for, I go by fire Thrower on my social media, this is because I also have a love for fire performing.”

Advice To New Throwers:

“Go to ranges and competitions as much as you can. It's not just about how good you throw it's about having fun and meeting great new people and being part of a fantastic community. Other than that, practice as often as you can and try not to get too much in your head.”
