Hailing From: Petrolia, Ontario Canada

Throwing Since: 2016

At only 29 years old, Mr. Dewhirst has already packed nearly a decade of professional experience into a Sports Throwing career characterized by extreme ability and true sportsmanship. Brett hit the ground running in 2016, and at just 20 years of age, started claiming victories from the beginning. He has competed in numerous live national and international tournaments and championships across many different organizations, including the world championships held by IKTHOF, Blade Aces, and  WATL and the NATF Invitational, among others. Though he’s top notch with a knife and an ax, Mr. 5 Oh tells us he’s best known for his abilities and accolades in the rotational knife category, favoring the handshake grip style and the category overall. He cites a handful of influences in his career. Jack Dagger, along with prominent IKTHOF leadership, are among the top influences for the styles they used, as well as major figures in the sport such as Mike Bainton, Richard Wesson and our own founder Rick Lemberg for great advice and inspiration over the years.

With the first Aim Games tomahawk and ax tournament, ‘H1’, as his first Aim Games competition, Brett has been playing for some time. He’s competed in 13 to date and holds a very impressive record, though the games not only appeal to his talent but his incredible sense of sportsmanship and community as well. He tells us, “What I like about the aim games is the variety of games and competitions they run, it’s free to enjoy, just gotta follow the rules. The biggest thing I love is how supportive the Aim Games organization is with the throwing community, be it donating or helping at events. It's great to see the love reflected back into the community”.

Nickname Backstory:

“ Mr 5 Oh came about recently during the 2024 IKTHOF world championships when I wore head to toe match Hawaiian hibiscus” and I’ve since taken to it”.

Advice to New Throwers:

“Don't be afraid to ask for help. Ask to try knives, and don’t be afraid to ask the pro throwers at events for advice. Outside of that, practice. But, it needs to be productive practice. Try changing slight things in your throw, eventually something will work for you. Lastly, don’t be afraid of change. The throw you have today will be totally different from the throw you had yesterday. Adapt and learn”.

Notable Achievements:

In 2016 his rookie year, Brett swept the amateur circuit rotational knife events undefeated at the IKTHOF World Championship, with a 219/240 for his first ever conventional amateur knife score. At the same championship the following year, he earned his first master score at 260/300 with two drops, but he tells us his biggest scoring event was at Dangerfest 2019, wherein he scored in the 270s in both the pro rotational knife and tomahawk categories.

Inside the Aim Games, Mr 5 Oh holds a one Superstar rank and has placed in the top 10 six times from June 2017 to November 2019, including as high as 4th place in both ‘H2 Hawk Across Texas’ and ‘H3 Hawk and Axe Challenge’, as well as 5th place in ‘K12 Summer Heat’.
